Vinegar Hair Rinse
Once or twice a month switch out your conditioner with a rinse of vinegar. The vinegar will strip out build-up in your hair and restore shine. Make sure not to use this rinse more than recommended as it can dry out your hair with frequent use.
Oil Moisturizer
Any oil or shortening of your choice is good to moisturize, but use sparingly. If you use too much you'll just end up feeling greasy. Use it on rough elbows, knees and feet as well as lips and cuticles.
Salt and Oil Exfoliating Mask
3 Tbsp. Oil
1 Tbsp. Salt
Mix and gently rub onto dry skin. Make sure to avoid the eye area. The mix id too coarse for the thin skin surrounding the eye area . The mix is also great for soft and happy feet.
Honey Mask
Honey is an antioxidant, antibacterial and is full of vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Use it as a facemask and make your complexion worthy of the name "lovely deseret."
Lay a warm cloth on your face to open pores, smear honey onto your face and leave it for 15-30 minutes. Rinse with warm water, then splash face with cold water to close pores.
Note: Do not use in a camping situation where insects, bears and other unwanted honey-loving creatures would find you attractive.
Oatmeal Face Mask
2 Tbls. rolled oats
1 tsp. honey
2 Tbls. warm water
Blend oats into a medium powder, mix with warm water and honey. Spread on face and leave for 10-15 minutes before gently washing off with warm water to uncover fresh and supple skin.
Oatmeal Facial Mask Recipe
Try this quick and easy recipe for a facial mask using oatmeal and other basic ingredients** found in the kitchen. Each ingredient in the facial mask has a specific role. Oatmeal is used for soothing irritated skin; the glycolic acid and fine grains of sugar are used for exfoliating, and the jojoba oil is a greaseless emollient that soothes skin. Lemon juice has antiseptic properties and removes discoloration, and the comfrey root extract contains allantoin for wound healing and skin repair.
3 tablespoons of Oatmeal (Rolled Oats)
1 rounded teaspoon of Sugar
1 tablespoon of Jojoba Oil
Juice of half a Lemon
14 drops (1/2 ounce) of Comfrey Root Extract
1. Pulverize the oatmeal using a mortar and pestle (or a food processor).
2. Mix the oatmeal and sugar together in small bowl.
3. Add the jojoba oil in a thin stream while stirring constantly.
4. Place a whole lemon in the microwave for 15 seconds to release juices. Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the mixture. Stir.
5. Add the comfrey root extract, and stir again until smooth.
6. Apply the mixture to your face. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes.
7. Rinse with lukewarm water, then pat your face dry.
** To create variations in the facial mask, substitute the following ingredients:
Extra virgin olive oil or almond oil may be substituted for jojoba oil
Whole milk yogurt containing lactic acid, can be used instead of sugar
Plantain or chamomile extract can be used instead of comfrey root extract
